WhatsApp Business App vs WhatsApp Business API
The WhatsApp Business App is a free phone app for small businesses that reply by hand. The WhatsApp Business API, also called the WhatsApp Business Platform or Cloud API, has no app of its own. You use it through a provider such as SyncBot, which adds keyword auto-replies, a shared team inbox, a CRM and broadcasts to opted-in customers.
Rule of thumb: stay on the App while one person can answer every chat. Move to the API when enquiries go unanswered, several people need to share the number, or you want automation and follow-ups.

Signs it’s time to move to the API
- Customers wait hours for answers to the same five questions
- More than one person needs to reply from the business number
- Leads from ads go cold because nobody follows up
- You want to know which enquiries became customers
What changes when you switch
Your business number connects to the API through Meta’s official sign-up, and from then on you reply from the SyncBot dashboard in your browser. Replies inside the 24-hour customer service window are service messages. Conversations you start after that window use approved message templates. Talk to SyncBot support before connecting a number that is in daily use on the Business App, so we can plan the move with you.
Frequently asked questions
Is the WhatsApp Business API free?
The API has no app fee from Meta, but messages are priced per message. Service replies are free up to 1,000 per number a month, then about ₹0.115 plus GST each, and template messages are billed separately. You also need a provider: SyncBot plans cost ₹999, ₹1,999 or ₹4,599 a month.
Do I need a website to use the WhatsApp Business API?
No website is needed to use SyncBot. You need a phone number that can receive a verification code and a Meta (Facebook) business account, which you can create during sign-up.
Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business App after switching?
It depends on how the number is connected. Meta supports some numbers on both the app and the API. Ask SyncBot support before you connect a number that you rely on in the Business App.
